ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo explore the association between social support, parent-child relationships, and depression, anxiety, and loneliness among adolescents, in order to provide a reference for improving mental health in youth. MethodsA total of 11,596 middle school students from two districts of Shanghai were investigated with the stratified random cluster sampling method. The Chinese version of Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-2-C), Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7), UCLA Loneliness Scale (ULS-6), Perceived Social Support Scale and Parent-child Cohesion Questionnaire were used in the survey. Statistical inferences were made using t-test, ANOVA, and logistic regression analysis. ResultsGirls, non-graduates, students ranking in the top 25%, adolescents living with parents and with higher socioeconomic status had higher scores of social support and parent-child cohesion than boys, graduates, students ranking in the middle or in the bottom 25%, adolescents not living with parents and with lower socioeconomic status (P<0.05). Adolescents' parent-child cohesion and social support were negatively correlated with all kinds of emotions. Parent-child cohesion was an associated factor of depression (OR=0.93, 95%CI:0.91‒0.94), loneliness (OR=0.94, 95%CI:0.94‒0.95) and anxiety (ORmild=0.98, 95%CI: 0.98‒0.99; ORmoderate or severe=0.96, 95%CI: 0.95‒0.98), but there were differences in the correlation between emotions and social support in different dimensions. ConclusionSocial support and parent-child relationship are significantly associated with depression, anxiety and loneliness in adolescent students. Paying more attention to youth with different characteristics, taking targeted measures to improve the level of social support and establishing a good family relationship are conducive to promoting the mental health of adolescents.

ABSTRACT

This study critically examines the current status of interoception research in modern psychology, taking into account perspective of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), encompassing both foundational studies and clinical applications. The investigation highlights a deep interconnection between psychosomatic theories in TCM, such as the TCM emotions and viscera theory and the view of body-spirit syncretism, and the concept of interoception at the cognitive level. Moreover, philosophical principles, particularly the “Zhi Yi Lun” in TCM, align naturally with the three-dimensional interoception model. Importantly, this comparative analysis emphasizes that Western and Chinese medicine place different emphasis on interoception research with the former focusing on diagnosis and the latter on treatment. These differing approaches complement each other and provide opportunities for cross-fertilization. At the practical level of interoception application, “five-state personality classification” demonstrates promising potential for further clinical application. In addition, TCM has valuable insights for contemporary medical practices in terms of emotional regulation. TCM methods for emotional regulation, known as “Daoyin”, provide important knowledge in this area. One concept developed by TCM for clinical intervention targeting interoception is “Tiao Qi” (regulating qi). This concept is used during diagnosis and treatment in TCM and plays a crucial role in managing interoceptive states. This paper aims to explain the cognitive and applied aspects of interoception in TCM, offering a perspective for future research and clinical application. By integrating modern psychology's psychosomatic medicine model, TCM can enhance its relevance and efficacy in contemporary medical contexts. This integration promotes a balanced relationship between the mind and body. TCM researchers have a responsibility to explore the inherent strengths and practical value of TCM in interoception research, and contribute to the advancement of TCM.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Introduction: At present, there are few reports regarding the issue of aortic reoperation due to its complexity and high risk and individual differences among patients. Methods: From November 2016 to December 2017, the data from 35 cases of aortic reoperation at our institution, out of 212 consecutive aortic repairs, were reviewed. We retrospectively summarized and analyzed their surgical indications, operative data, time interval from previous aortic repair, and outcomes. The time intervals until reoperation were analyzed for differences. Results: Patients' mean age was 40.9±14.5 years, and 25 of them were men (71.4%). The indications for reoperation were aortic valvular problem (14.3%), aneurysmal dilatation (25.7%), pseudoaneurysm formation due to anastomotic leakage (43.2%), and aortic dissection (17.1%). For patients who had underwent primarily emergency operations due to aortic dissection, the time interval until reoperation (4.8±3.2 years) was significantly shorter than that of the whole group (5.5±3.6 years, P<0.01). Among the 35 reoperations, Sun's procedure was selected for 16 patients (45.7%) with total aortic arch reconstruction. The average follow-up was 12 months (range 9-15 months). Hospital mortality was 5.7% (two patients). Among the hospital survivors there were no cases of death, rupture of residual dissection, paraplegia, or central nervous system complications during the follow-up period. Conclusion: Patients with acute aortic dissection required repeat surgery significantly earlier compared to other diseases. As to reoperation strategy, we recommend Sun's procedure as the choice for extended arch reconstruction since minimal effect on overall mortality and complication rates were found.

ABSTRACT

The electrocatalytic oxidation of dopamine (DA) was studied by electrochemical approaches at a carbon ionic liquid electrode (CILE) modified with the composite film of nafion and L-aspartic acid (NL-CILE). The CILE was fabricated by replacing non-conductive organic binders with a room-temperature hydrophobic ionic liquid, 1-butyl-3-methyl-imidazolium hexafluorophosphate. The composite film of NL was used as matrix to adsorb DA and catalyze the oxidation of DA in phosphate buffer solution (PBS). The electrochemical response of DA was investigated at the NL-CILE, the traditional carbon paste electrode (TCPE), CILE and the nafion modified CILE (N-CILE) in 0.1M PBS (pH 7.4), respectively. The results showed the superiority of NL-CILE to N-CILE, CILE and TCPE in terms of provision of higher sensitivity, faster electron transfer and better reversibility. Under optimum condition, the oxidation peak current was rectilinear with DA concentration range from 0.1μM to 0.1mM, with a detection limit of 0.03μM (S/N=3) by differential pulse voltammetry. The proposed method was applied to determine DA in samples successfully.

ABSTRACT

AIM:To observe the expression of Toll like receptor 4 (TLR4) in the left ventricle of Goldblatt rats and to explore the role and mechanism of TLR4 in left ventricular remodeling of hypertension.METHODS:Goldblatt model of Two-kidney,one-clip (2K1 C) renovascular hypertension was induced in twenty-five rats(H group),and twenty rats served the sham-operated group(sham group). The tail cuff blood pressure was detected every week and echocardiogram was observed every other week. After eight weeks of operation, the rats were killed and the samples of the left ventricle were collected. The concentration of Ang Ⅱ in left ventricle was assessed by tadioimmunoassay.Western blotting and RT-PCR were used to exam the mRNA and protein expression of TLR4 in the left ventricle.Immunohistochemistry was adopted to exam the location of TLR4 in the myocardium.RESULTS:TLR4 mRNA and protein expression were consistently upregulated in the left ventricle of H group compared with sham group. In H group, predominantly sarcolemmal staining was observed, especially focal areas of intense TLR4 staining were found in juxtaposed regions of two or more adjacent myocytes; However,in sham group,TLR4 expression was diffuse and presumably cytoplasmic.Considerable correlation was found between blood pressure,MESS,LVMI,RWT,the concentration of Ang Ⅱ in left ventricle and the protein expression of TLR4 in myoeytes.CONCLUSION:During the development of left ventricular remodeling of Goldblatt rats, expression of TLR4 increases significantly.Enhanced expression of TLR4 locates in the sarcolemma, especially in juxtaposed regions of two or more adjacent myocytes. These indicate that TLR4 transmembrane receptor which is closely relative with inflammation and immunity probably contributes to the development of ventricular remodeling.[KEY WORDS]Hypertension;Ventricular remodeling;Receptors,Toll-like;Goldblatt rats
